Roles and Responsibilities

A PCA cooking for a client in a wheelchair A PCA is a person who performs and assists with routine tasks of daily living for persons with disabilities and special health needs.  These are tasks the person would perform if able.  In general, your role, as the PCA is to assist a person to be as independent as possible.  PCA duties fall within four categories of services.

  1. Activities of daily living (ADLs)
  2. Health-related procedures and tasks
  3. Observation and redirection of behaviors
  4. Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLSs) for people 18 years and older
